Eagle Cam Currently Off Air Till Next Year
Three Young Eagles spread their wings and started their own lives.
April 6, 2012 This nesting pair of Bald Eagles are in Decorah, Iowa. Both male and female Bald Eagles look almost identical in appearance but there are some slight differences. When viewed side by side the female will be larger.
Adult female Bald Eagles can weigh around 40 pounds with a wingspan of nearly 8 feet. Adult male are about 10 pounds less and have a wingspan of around 6 feet. The male will also have a dark ring around his eyes. Hard to tell unless given a close-up shot I've been watching these Eagles on their nest for about 6 weeks now.
Very interesting as both male and female took turns setting on the eggs until they hatched a little over a week ago as I write this. There were three eggs laid and all three hatched.
As of this date they are all doing well and are well cared for. I am a little concerned about the little one that hatched last. Since the eggs have hatched the female has stayed on the nest longer than the male but they will trade occasionally.
Food supply must be very good as I constantly see new "meals" being brought to the nest frequently. I've seen mostly fish including trout and crappie but do see an occasional rabbit. Each adult will bite of little pieces of whatever is for dinner and feed the little ones.
